What WedShoots does well
WedShoots costs nothing. It is the wedding album app of the portals Bodas.net, Mariages.net and Matrimonio.com, and its own pages say it can be used without any cost or limitation, on Android and on iPhone. Guests upload as many photos as they like, and videos too, and the couple decides who is invited to the album, with no limit on participants.
Inviting is quick: the couple sends the album code by email, as a QR code or through WhatsApp. Inside the app, guests like and comment on each other's photos, so the album turns into a small feed of the day. During the celebration, a real-time gallery shows new photos as they arrive, which WedShoots describes as made for a projector at the venue. Afterwards, the couple downloads the complete album, or a selection, in what WedShoots calls high resolution, ready to print.
As the owner of the album, the couple can switch it on and off, allow or prevent downloads and sharing, and block a guest. And the app comes in languages EventAssets does not offer, among them Catalan, Basque, Galician and Portuguese, which matters when the families speak them at home.
If you already plan your wedding on one of these portals, WedShoots sits next to the tools you use there, and it adds no cost to the day.
Where EventAssets works differently
The first difference is what guests do before they can share. With WedShoots, they install the app and register before they join the album with its code. With EventAssets, they open a link or scan a QR code and upload in the browser, without an app and without an account, which helps with the guests who would not install anything for an evening.
The second is where the rest of the wedding lives. The portal behind WedShoots offers a free wedding planner with a wedding website, a guest list with RSVP, a seating plan and a budget, and its wedding website links to the album; these are tools of the portal, not of the app. EventAssets puts them on the event page itself: the schedule, the location on a map and what guests should know, then the replies, where guests find their name and answer for their whole party, and the seating chart, where they later look up their table. Budgets with planned and actual amounts sit beside it.
The third is the gallery. EventAssets keeps photos and videos in original quality, sorts them into albums such as the ceremony, the dinner and the party, and can hold uploads for your approval before anyone else sees them. Its guestbook takes written messages and voice recordings made in the browser, signed with a name from the guest list or left anonymous. Hosts run all of it from the web or from the apps for iPhone and Android.
An app for the album, or a page for the event
The core difference is where guests meet the wedding. WedShoots meets them in an app on their phone, joined with a code, where the album is a shared stream of photos with likes and comments. EventAssets meets them on a page they open from the invitation, which carries the information of the day first and then collects the photos, videos and messages.
Both work for a wedding. If most of your guests already have the app or will gladly install it, and you plan on the portal anyway, WedShoots keeps everything free and in a place you know. If your guest list spans generations and phones, and you would rather not ask anyone to register, a link that opens in the browser asks less of them. The table above sets both side by side, criterion by criterion, with the source of every fact.
What to check before you decide
Think about your guests first: whether they will install an app and register on the day, or whether a link that opens in the browser suits them more. Decide whether you want to approve uploads before they appear, whether the photos should be sorted into albums, and whether you want a guestbook with written or voice messages next to the gallery. Then look at where your planning happens: on a wedding portal you already use, or on an event page that holds the replies and the seating chart beside the photos. With EventAssets, the event page, the guest list and the guestbook are yours to set up for free before you decide to pay for anything.
