What Partiful does well
Partiful is built for the invitation and the excitement before a party. You create an event page quickly with a poster, a theme and effects, the date, the place and a description, and share one link wherever you talk to people: by text, by email or on social media. Anyone with the link can reply, and guests do not need the app to do it. Partiful’s help pages say its core platform is free to use, with paid extras such as premium invitation designs.
Partiful also does the sending. It texts your invitations to people you have been to parties with or to your phone contacts, emails them from a list, sends reminders before the party on its own and lets you reach everyone at once with a Text Blast, before the event or after it. Replies come in with plus-ones and the answers to a short questionnaire, and a poll helps find a date that suits everyone. Guests see who else is coming, leave comments, GIFs and photos on the event page, and react and reply to comments, so the conversation happens in one place instead of a group chat. Cohosts share the work, and for events that cost something, Partiful sells tickets with check-in at the door or links to a payment app for guests to chip in.
After the party, guests and hosts add photos and videos to the event’s photo album, and everyone on the event can view and download them; in the app, the whole album can be saved at once. Hosts manage it all on the web or in the apps for iPhone and Android. If you want a free invitation that does the sending and the reminding for you, Partiful covers that well.
Where EventAssets offers more
EventAssets plans the event as well as inviting to it. The event page shows the schedule, the location on a map, cover photos and an about text, in the language of each guest’s browser. You build the guest list with couples, families and plus-ones grouped into parties; guests find their name, answer for their whole party and fill in your own questions before your deadline, and the statistics follow every answer. From that list you build the seating chart, and guests look up their table on the event page. Budgets hold the costs of the day with planned and actual amounts. All of this is part of the free plan.
The gallery sits on the same page. Guests open the link or scan the QR code and upload photos and videos in the browser, in original quality, without an app, an account or a phone number. You sort them into albums, approve uploads before others see them if you wish, and download the whole gallery as a ZIP. Guests react to each photo and video and comment on it in the gallery, and a full-screen slideshow picks up new uploads while it runs, so it works on a screen at the venue. The guestbook takes written messages and voice recordings made in the browser, signed with a name from the guest list or left anonymous, and you decide which entries show on the page. Hosts run all of it from the web or from the apps for iPhone and Android.
An invitation for the party, or a home for the whole event
The core difference is where each one starts. Partiful starts with the invitation: it goes out by link, text or email, anyone who has it can reply, and the event page becomes a place to talk before the party. Partiful’s help pages describe a reply as confirming a phone number with a code sent by text, which then lets the guest comment and add photos. EventAssets starts with your guest list: you share the link or the QR code yourself, guests choose their name from the list, and nothing asks them for a phone number or an account. EventAssets sends your guests no invitations, reminders or messages; the event page is where they find everything.
What happens with the photos differs as well. On Partiful, the photo album is part of the event page, next to the comments. On EventAssets, the gallery has albums, approval before others see an upload, a slideshow, and reactions and comments on each photo, and the guestbook keeps the messages for you apart from the pictures. If your gathering is a casual party where the invitation and the replies matter most, compare the rows for guests and planning in the table above. If the photos, the messages and the seating matter as much as the invitation, compare the rows for photos and the guestbook as well. Where Partiful’s own pages state nothing on a point, the table says so instead of guessing.
What to check before you decide
Think about how your guests will hear about the event and how they will reply. If you want the invitation sent and the reminders handled for you, and anyone with the link may come, that points to an invitation tool such as Partiful. If you know who is invited and want them to reply for their whole party, find their table and leave a message, that points to an event page with a guest list, as described on the RSVP feature page. Then decide where the photos and videos should end up: whether guests should upload without giving a phone number, whether you want to approve uploads first, and whether you want to download everything at once in a browser. The guide on collecting guest photos walks through the options. With EventAssets, the event page, the guest list, the seating chart, the budget and the guestbook are yours to set up before you pay anything; one payment per event lifts the caps on photos, videos, storage and voice recordings.
